Turn unused drawer gaps into purposeful storage

Gridfinity Gap Solver calculates the space left after a 42 mm grid is placed in a measured drawer. Enter the narrowest internal width and depth in millimeters. The diagram shows the right edge gap and a separate front strip, without counting the corner twice.

Measure the real drawer

Measure inside at the bottom, middle and top. Use the smallest usable measurement and account for rails, rounded corners, screws and other obstructions. Drawer dimensions are user supplied; this tool cannot verify your measurements.

Understand the calculation

A 400 × 300 mm drawer holds a nominal 9 × 7 grid, occupying 378 × 294 mm. The remaining right strip is 22 × 300 mm and the front strip is 378 × 6 mm. These are nominal gaps before clearance. A 0.3 mm clearance on each side reduces the part width and length by 0.6 mm.

Choose a useful part

The Precision Rail is an open tray for slim tools. The Parts Tray adds dividers for small hardware. The Edge Spacer is a low solid filler intended to limit movement. These are independent rectangular accessories. They do not include Gridfinity stacking lips, magnets, screw holes or a standard interlocking base.

From gap to print

Export an editable OpenSCAD design or a short test coupon. Download STL directly for your slicer. For further edits, download the OpenSCAD source, render the solid and export STL. Check printer bed dimensions and wall thickness. Long parts may need a larger printer or manual segmentation. Print and measure the coupon before committing to a full part. No fit, material strength or slicer settings are certified.

FAQ

Is the spatial preview a fit test? The rotatable 3D view shows the selected part geometry using the same surface mesh as the STL export. It does not validate the actual drawer shape, printer accuracy or physical fit. Always test a small piece first.

What happens if no gap remains? Export is disabled for a zero-width strip. Select the other edge or change your layout.

Where are my measurements saved? Only in this browser when local storage is available. Reset clears this project. No measurements or design files are uploaded by the tool. Advertising services may process data under their own policies.
